Cognitive Assessments

Cognivue Clarity® is the first FDA Cleared digital cognitive assessment device that delivers objective, quantitative, and reliable evaluations for both initial assessment and ongoing monitoring at the point of care. With over 17 patents, it offers a 10-minute test that assesses key cognitive domains such as memory, executive function, and visuospatial skills. The device employs adaptive psychophysics to customize the assessment for each patient, generating an automated, easy-to-understand report. Cognivue Clarity® is designed to be an adjunctive tool for clinicians in evaluating cognitive function and is available for purchased and leased (available in English and Spanish).

Up to 80% of People with Alzheimer's Have Type 2 Diabetes

Digital Cognitive Assessment

Diabetes Testing Centers™ recognizes the significance of comprehensive assessments for people managing diabetes. People with Type 2 diabetes have a significantly higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, with up to 80% of Alzheimer's patients showing some form of insulin resistance. Until now, there has been a gap between primary care providers who can conduct cognitive assessments and patients who require such assessments. Many physicians are often unaware of cognitive impairments in more than 40 percent of their cognitively impaired patients, and studies indicate that most dementia patients have never undergone clinical cognitive evaluations. Our newest offering is a 10-minute self-administered Cognitive Assessment that simplifies the process of administering point-of-care tests to patients. This streamlines the process for medical providers, enabling them to quickly review the results with patients at the point-of-care, making it a hassle-free experience.

The Cognivue Clarity® device takes the patient through a series of exercises to assess the domains of Memory, Executive Function/Attention, Discrimination, and Visuospatial, as well as two speed performance parameters.

Historically, paper-based tools like the MMSE and MoCA have been widely used for cognitive screening. However, recent digital innovation has brought significant progress to cognitive assessments. Our state-of-the-art medical device for Cognitive Assessments saves time and adds robust clinical insights to providers.

#1 Modifiable Risk Factor for Dementia is Hearing Loss

The Cognivue Clarity® Test Experience

1. The test begins with the patient undergoing a visuomotor assessment to calibrate their dominant hand's motor skills and visual function.

2. Next, perception tasks are conducted to calibrate memory testing across different categories, including letters, words, shapes, and motion.

3. During the memory test, the patient is first shown an item to remember (such as a letter, word, shape, or motion). The patient is then presented with several items in sequence, with only one being the correct match to the original item.

The test concludes with an automated analysis that compiles the patient’s performance across all tasks. The results are presented in an easy-to-understand report, providing clinicians with a comprehensive overview of the patient’s cognitive function. This report aids in both initial assessments and ongoing monitoring, helping to guide appropriate clinical decisions.

Primary Cognitive Assessments

Cognitive assessments are essential tools used by a variety of healthcare providers to evaluate and monitor cognitive function. Primary care providers (PCPs) are often the first line of defense, using these assessments to screen for early signs of mild cognitive impairment (MDI) with mental decline and memory issues but here are the top three types of medical providers who should routinely conduct cognitive assessments, particularly for older adults or patients at risk of cognitive impairment, include:

1. Primary Care Physicians: PCPs are often the first point of contact for patients and are well-positioned to observe early signs of cognitive decline during regular check-ups. They play a crucial role in identifying cognitive issues and referring patients for further evaluation if necessary.

2. Geriatricians: These specialists focus on the care of older adults, making them particularly attuned to the subtle signs of cognitive impairment that can accompany aging. Geriatricians are trained to handle complex health issues in elderly patients, including dementia.

3. Pharmacists: Pharmacists are experts in medication management, which is crucial in cognitive assessments, especially when medication side effects might contribute to cognitive decline. They can identify potential drug interactions or side effects that could be impacting cognitive function.

These providers are crucial in early detection and management of cognitive impairments, helping to ensure that patients receive appropriate care and support.
